Wine Tasting in Paso

February 18, 2008 on 10:13 pm | In Uncategorized | 1 Comment

Changus came into town for work and  rallied me, Meghan, Rox, Liz, and Marshal to go wine tasting in Paso on Saturday.  I offered to drive since I had a cold and didn’t feel like tasting wine all day. We hit five wineries between 12 and 5:30: Malloy, Minassian - Young, Justin, Opolo, and Grey Wolf.  My favorite was Minassian - Young because of their well priced Zinfandel. At Justin we were able to barrel taste the 2006 Isosoles Zinfandel (see photo above) which wasn’t that impressive.  I think the Isosoles, at $62 a bottle, is overrated. On the way home we stopped at the Cayucos Tavern for a couple games of pool and shuffle board where Meghan and I dominated Changus and Rox.

Fever

This morning I woke up early to meet Dan at the pool for a pre-work swim.  We did a short workout of 700yd freestyle.  I felt OK but not great.  I road my bike to work and started to feel very weak and tired so I decided to take the last half of the day off and discovered I have a mild fever.  I slept most of the afternoon until Meghan came over with some soup and sick supplies. Hope to beat this quickly before Scotland the week after next.

20.36 mi in 01:17:35 hours at 15.75 mi/h on Specialized Roubaix. [Cycling] Avila with Dan. Seat post broke and saddle fell off in the road. Cranked out of the saddle all the way from Avila exit to bike shop. Glad the seat post broke now rather than during a triathlon.

Unknown distance in 02:00:00 hours on Black Cat Singlespeed. [Cycling] Irish Hills with Dan. Went up quarry. Trail is still a little wet from last weekend’s rain. Sunny and windy. We decided to do mountain instead of road because it was super windy. The wind slowed us down quite a bit on the ride home.

Cerro Alto

November 11, 2007 on 6:51 pm | In Uncategorized | No Comments

Cerro Alto

Meghan and I hiked Cerro Alto yesterday. Total distance was 5.9 miles round trip to the summit. Our goal was to break in our new backpacking boots which we did. Cerro Alto is the highest peak in San Luis Obispo county. We could see all 7 sisters, Montana de Oro, Morro Bay, Los Osos, and SLO from the top. We would have been able to see more if it wasn’t so hazy. If you’re thinking about hiking Cerro Alto it cost $5 to park.
